Countdown is on for Spectacular Jousting

Young squire gets pointers from a jouster ahead of the return of spectacular jousting

One of the summer’s most popular events is set to return. Historic Environment Scotland (HES) invites visitors to experience exhilarating horsemanship and impressive skills as the brave and courageous knights battle it out at Linlithgow Palace on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June and at Caerlaverock Castle on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 July.

The annual family favourite will this year see the thunder of hooves and the clash of spears and lances again fill the air as our four champions take to the arena for this spectacular show. There will also be living history camps to explore, falconry displays to watch and entertainment from court jesters.

Gillian Urquhart, Events Manager at HES, said:

We’re very much looking forward to welcoming visitors back to one of our most popular events. Spectacular Jousting offers the chance to engage with our heritage in a thrilling way as history is brought to life by fantastic performers. Alongside activities that have become firm favourites each year, we also have the brand-new squire school, where visitors can have a go at learning what it takes to be a squire to a noble knight. There truly is something for all the family!

Spectacular Jousting will take place at Linlithgow Palace from 11.30am to 4.30pm on both days, and at Caerlaverock Castle from 11am to 4pm on both days.

Advance booking required to guarantee entry. Tickets can be bought online in advance and are free for Historic Scotland members.
